Negotiations: Prepare, Prepare, Prepare

This tip concerns making sure that you are fully prepared for your important negotiations. Some suggestions:

  • Build time into the diary to prepare your negotiating strategy and tactics
  • Use your team and trusted colleagues to help you prepare for important negotiations, including identifying what are the other side’s weak spots.
  • Identify and list the (open) questions that would help you understand what the other side really need.
  • Get ‘match fit’ by practicing asking for things in every day situations, so it becomes easier in important negotiating situations.
